My house in relation to Superstorm Sandy's path
We made it through Sandy this week without an issue even though the house was nearly under it's direct path. Others, especially along the coast, weren't quite so lucky. I know you've been hearing this from a number of people, but consider donating to the Red Cross if you are able. If you've ever been to Atlantic City you know that many of the people that live there are not living in expensive beach homes and will need help in the coming weeks and months.

My neighbor's tree has been a part of many of my paintings. Today, sadly, it was removed because it was very unhealthy and posed a safety hazard to the two houses that were next to it.  Below are some of the paintings it has inspired and one photograph of the tree in very early morning light. This tree will be missed.

Afternoon Delight, 7 x 5 (sold)
Red Truck, 6 x 8 (sold)
Illumination, 8 x 6 (sold)

My last outdoor show of the year was this past weekend.  A great big bear-hug (I'm from Bear, get it?) thank you to everybody that stopped by. Thankfully the storm that chased us out early on Saturday only made things wet. Sunday, however, was beautiful and really made the weekend just perfect.

Formal Gardens

You spent your weekend doing yard work? Here's some inspiration from the Rehoboth Art League show.

It was a great show. I met so many wonderful people, but now I have a problem. Some of my favorite pieces sold during the weekend and now I have to SERIOUSLY get back to painting. MY walls are bare!

Get Oiled Up at the Beach

The time has finally come! When it comes to roller coaster rides, Rehoboth is the most exciting. I have an entire truckload of supplies (literally) being delivered this week just to prepare. The friendships I have made over the years have made this show the most satisfying show I attend and the art is fantastic.

Life in Lititz

Oh, the ecstasy and the agony of the summer outdoor art show. Sometimes I have neighbors that chain smoke and yell at priests, sometimes I make new friends, sometimes it's 103 degrees. I've talked about it before. Saturday's show in Lititz, PA was no different...

I received a fourth place award in the Oils/Acrylics category for my painting Pumpkin Patch. It's always a little ego boost when you are recognized by somebody for the work you do.

For those of you that couldn't make it to the show, below is a 360 view of the park. It's really quite nice.

"Now, wait just a second! This doesn't sound so bad!" you think to yourself. I know. How could it really? Towards the end of the day, however, we realized that we had been the victims of theft. Nothing big, just a $20 print, but theft all the same. I've got mixed emotions about it. On one hand it means that there is a market for my work and somebody decided to turn to a life of crime just to obtain one of my pieces. On the other, well, I was jacked.

Brandywine Park Bridge & Outdoor Show Update

"The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn" - David Russell

This painting is 7" x 5" oil on canvas board.

"Not a new painting?" I hear you ask. I know, it's been tough getting to paint lately and with preparations for the summer shows I feel like my painting schedule has slowed to the speed of DC beltway traffic. For instance, making the frames alone has taken up all of the past three weekends. That's seven days of near non-stop sawing, sanding and stapling.

Oh, you didn't know I made my own frames? Here's a quick lesson from 2010.

See? That's how I get my beauties prepped. Nothing but the best for these little gems.

I've also spent plenty of time designing and printing the new 2012 outdoor show cards. It may seem like just a promotional postcard, but I make sure each card is unique and executed just right.
